Let's Talk Skincare

Monday, 16 October 2017

While I am certainly  no expert on the matter of skincare, I think its fair to say that everyone has had their own skin issues at some point and time. Whether it’s that one stubborn spot or a zillion spots at once. We’ve all been there. What works for some may not work for others but I would like to share what worked for me :)
Thankfully my skin has never been a major issue for me in terms of acne etc. Saying that, I wasn’t entirely blessed with ‘flawless’ skin either. Ever since my teens I have had several small pimples all over my forehead along with the occasional breakout on my chin. I also had a very uneven skin tone with a lot of redness on my t-zone. I think when I turned thirteen I just accepted the fact that my spotty forehead was inevitable during my teenage years. However, when I turned 23 and found myself STILL waiting for the skin-fairy to grant me this flawless skin that everyone around me seemed to have. I began to wonder.  I had a little sit down with myself and tried to figure out what was actually going on with my skin.
I would spend hours googling ‘how to get perfect skin’. Every website would have the same key points; Eat well, get enough sleep, take off your make-up before going to bed bla bla bla…
I slept at least nine hours a night. I ate healthy, (I am very conscious about the foods I eat. I generally try avoid all processed foods with all that added, unnecessary rubbish.) I took my make-up off before going to bed (at least that’s what I thought…)
So after doing tonnes of research and trying out millions of different potions and lotions, I have finally started noticing huge improvements.  In fact, my skin has never been so clear!! I will happily walk outside my front door without make-up which is something I struggled with before. So I want to share with you how I managed to clear my skin and fight those very stubborn pimples and occasional breakouts.
1. Avene Clearance Micellar Water
I still cringe at how I 'removed' my make-up in the past. The skin-care experts out there would actually have me locked up. So, while I thought a quick rub with the face cloth removed my make-up, I have since learned better. Now I swear by Avene  Clearance Micellar Water to remove my make-up at the end of  each day. I really like the one by Garnier also which you can find in Primark.

2. IMAGE Vital C Cleanser
After taking my make-up off with the Miscellar water I like to use this cleanser from IMAGE to double cleanse. I have realised the difference double cleansing makes. I really work this into my skin to make sure every teeny tiny bit of make-up and dirt have been removed. Its so hydrating and leaves the skin feeling so smooth. It is a little pricey but the bottle lasts for ages and I have noticed a huge improvement in my skin. Of course, its free from Parabens and all those other nasty things. Defiantly will be buying this on repeat.

3. Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner
My friend Sion recommended this product to me and I have been hooked ever since I first tried it. If I had to pick one life changing product  it would be this one. At first I was a bit skeptical about using it, the idea of having a layer of skin stripped off using an acid didn't quite appeal to me. However, glycolic acid is in fact a very gentle acid which also helps fade fine lines. Its always so important to wear an SPF on your skin but ESPECIALLY after using this product. As I said, it literally removes a layer of skin so your 'new skin' will be a lot more sensitive to UV rays (yes, even in clouldy Ireland). I haven't seen this in Ireland but I buy mine from Beauty Bay (link)

  5. Avene Anti-Redness Moisturiser.
I only started using this a few months ago and I absolutely love it. Not only is it so hydrating, it really helps with redness and creating an even skin tone. It also has an SPF of 20 which is of course an added bonus.

6. Avene Clearance Mask
Yet again another Avene product. Seriously, this brand can do no wrong. I use this mask once a week or as needs be. Very inexpensive and immediate results.

So that's it, these are my miracle skincare products which I swear by. Of course these may not suit everyone but they certainly have helped me. I hope you have found this post useful in some way or another.

Have a wonderful week.

Ciao x
